I have followed a few diets over the years, including the Standard American Diet, now commonly known as SAD. For a few years, I was a vegetarian.
For the last 14 years, I have followed a low-carb diet. I was very influenced by Wheat Belly, written by Dr. William Davis.
My lab tests have certainly improved. So have my weight and waist. But, of course, we are all different. Your results may vary.
This collection of articles explores low-carb diets, metabolic health, insulin resistance, and nutrition, and explains why I have found the arguments for a low-carb approach persuasive.
The first two articles look at how and why the dietary guidelines came to recommend reducing fat. The authors have done extensive research and have spoken with dozens of doctors and researchers. They disagree profoundly with the low-fat advice. I found their arguments persuasive.
The remaining articles are by physicians, researchers, and writers, each bringing a somewhat different perspective but generally supporting a low-carb way of eating.
A Note of Caution
These articles and videos are for information only. I am not medically trained, and I am not suggesting that I have the answers for you. Please consult a qualified healthcare provider before making significant changes to your diet, lifestyle, or current medications.
If you do start a low-carb diet, your need for certain medications may change, particularly medications that affect blood sugar or blood pressure. Do not reduce or stop medications on your own. Any adjustment should be carefully monitored by a qualified healthcare professional experienced in managing these changes.
